Add Single Quotes Around String in Excel Cell Adding single quotes ‘like this’ around a string in Excel cells sounds like an easy thing to do, but in reality, it takes a little more than just typing in the quotes from your keyboard. Excel is a powerful tool with myriads of features while there are only so many keys available; hence Microsoft have made compromises on how user can achieve things (even so mutual than this).

If you want to wrap your text in an Excel cell around single quotes, type it like this to the cell:

''Your text here'

So in Excel, it will look like the below image. The text is now surrounded by ‘ and ‘ characters, but you can still see the double ” in front of the text when taking a look at the ƒx (function) field.

Quite simple, isn’t it. Just use a double single quote (”) in front of the text and normal single quote (‘) at the end!
